Here are some links to programs that are free and fully functional for ham radio. If you have a link you would like to include, send an e-mail to postmaster@richmondcountyarc.org and we will consider it for inclusion.

Logging

Winlog 32, the only one as far as I am concerned, if you are a contester, there are some others more suited for contesting, but for the average ham, chasing DXCC and other awards, it doesn't get any better than this, or cheaper

Logger 32
I just recently heard about this one. It has advantages and disadvantages over the Winlog32, it has a nice Grayline map, the interface to the external callsign lookup's like QRZ.com are completely diffrent, instead of opening a brower windew, the infomation is displayed on a smaller window within the program itself. It will receive all digital modes as well, including CW, it will send too, just haven't gotten that far into it. It is not as user friendly as Winlog32, I pride myself on being able to run about any application with common sense and reasing the sceen :-), but I would myself digging and hunting in the Logger32 to try and find things. It has possibilities, but the learning curve may be longer than with Winlog32. One thing I have not found on Logger32 is any sort of solor data, Winlog32 will collect the solar numbers every 3 hours as long as you are connnected to a DX cluster via the built-in interface. I have daily readings since Dec 2004 and it's interesting information, I would like to to continue collecting solar data so if Logger hasn't gotten it jidden in there somewhere, I am sticking with Winlog32.
I did import my 2496 QSO;s into logger with zero errors, and Logger32 does support eQSL upload as well.
You can down load it here

Digital Modes

SSTV RTTY
Here is another no brainer, just one look and you will see how user friendly a program is supposed to be. This guy is top shelf. Click here to see
JE3HHT's great collection of digital applications.
Here is a pic I got off 20 meters, total time from install to receiving SSTV about 10 min.

Digital Pictures

HamPal
HamPal seems to be the most popular of all the digital apps out there, contrary to some of the rumors I have heard about needing a 2Ghz PC to operate these modes, it's not quite that bad. I have talked to many hams getting by just fine with a 850Mhz procssor. So if you have a 1Ghz CPU, you probably have more than enough, you will also need Infraview and the Plug ins, Click here for Irfanview, and here for the plugins These 2 are over 9mb total, so it will take a few minutes on a dialup. To get HamPal click here and be sure and scroll down and get the latest's version.
Here is a pic I recieved from HamPal on 14.233Mhz

Digtrx
This was my personal favortite and I still use it occasionally. It can be found here. You can do some tricks that HamPal can't, such as enter customized waterfall messages, but overall Hampal is more powerful, Digital is a lot like plain old FTP over radio, if you have a large image, it could take many minutes to transmit it, you must re-size your images manully if you use Digtrx. One of the best features of HamPal is you can select any old picture, no matter the size, and IrfanView will automatically re-sized to the perfect size for transmission. Try then both and you decide :-)

PSK31

This is the best of the lot, the only one I have seen track 20 signals at once, W1SQL check it out! I have used this one for a few days and worked 5 countries, I use 10 watts, and hold the mic in front of the speaker to transmit (Acoustic Coupling) and get great reports. The same works for RTTY and SSTV, with all the Macros, you can have your life story programmed and just click it out one button at a time, no need for typing skills of any type, in fact with Eqsl (which I personally support) you can have a QSL same day practically

Electronic QSL'ing, Fast and easy and can save you a bundle!,
Sign up for Logbook of the World at www.arrl.org
ARRL is now accepting electronic QSLs for WAS and DXCC,
Note: They only accept LOTW qsl's, EQSL's and other imitations are pretty much worthless for any real awards other than ones they make up themselves.
